The UK Government has updated its guidance on coronavirus testing which has become available for essential workers in England and Scotland who are self-isolating in a move that could see healthcare professionals return to work.
The National Testing Programme provides testing for the virus, which is now available to essential workers with symptoms, as well as those living in the same household who are displaying symptoms of COVID-19.
The move will help support the return to work of urgently required frontline staffand allow employers the opportunity to maximise their workforce capacity during this unprecedented time.
At this time, the testing is only available in England and Scotland.
Am I eligible for a test?
If you or a member of your household is self-isolating because you have COVID-19 symptoms, you will be eligible for testing.
How can I get tested?
You can select a regional test site drive-through appointment or home test kit. Home test kit availability will initially be limited but more will become available. There is good availability of regional test sites, so please select this option if you can.
To request a test in your area, please visit https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/.
You will be offered a testing appointment in your area and will need to ensure you have the following available on arrival:
- Confirmation letter
- ID
- Mobile phone
Currently, you are only able attend a test site if you have a car, or if a member of your household has a car. Also, please be patient as there is an exceptional demand for tests.
I have my result; what happens next?
Once you have received your test result, please update your usual contact at Global Medics at your earliest convenience.
