Global Medics is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join the Adult Inpatient Mental Health team within modern mental health units. This is a permanent position based in Mid North Coast, NSW.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high‑quality, patient‑centred service within a growing regional health district.

The hospital is a major regional facility with a 24‑hour Emergency Department and comprehensive specialist services, including a dedicated adult mental health inpatient unit. The hospital's mental health facilities have undergone significant redevelopment, including the expansion of the Mental Health Unit and the establishment of flexible, therapeutic inpatient environments featuring secure rooms, natural light, activity spaces, landscaped courtyards, and wellness areas.

The Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit (Ward 1A) includes 12 declared mental health beds, with capacity to separate 4 acute beds to support varying levels of need. The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, registrars, junior doctors, nurses, social workers, activity officers, and support staff

Key clinical responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and formulation for adults admitted to the inpatient unit.
  • Provide ongoing treatment for patients across low‑dependency, acute, and observation/low‑stimulus beds.
  • Lead clinical decision-making regarding medication, psychological interventions, and behavioural management plans.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Coming from the UK - Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), awarded under any RCPsych curriculum from August 2007 to date following satisfactory completion of a General Medical Council or Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board approved specialty training program in psychiatry in the United Kingdom.
  • Other Countries - Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent. Holds a substantially comparable outcome of RANZCA assessment.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills and experience working with mental health problems in Adult Mental Health
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team
