Locum GP - Irish Prison Services

• Start date: ASAP/Flexible
• Length of contract: Weekday, Weekend and Bank Holiday shifts available every week across multiple locations, released 3 months in advance and weekly for adhoc cover. Full-time or part-time as per your availability.
• Rota: Full day: 9am-5pm (1hr unpaid break), AM shift: 9am-1pm / PM shift: 2-5pm
• Rates: Locum Flat hourly rate
• Locations: Co. Dublin, Co. Laois, Co. Cork, Co. Limerick, Co. Wicklow, Midlands, Co. Roscommon
• Induction: Initial 2 shifts booked as shadowing sessions, paid at full rate

Job Description:

• The Prison Doctor will be responsible for the primary medical and psychiatric care and includes the substance misuse needs of all prisoners within the establishment.
• This will include;
• Medical assessment of all new receptions
• Ongoing general medical care of prisoners to include drug and alcohol treatment
• Preventative programmes to limit the progression of chronic diseases
• Facilitating nurse prescribing across the prison estate
• Prescribing a course of treatment and monitoring that treatment for its duration
• Referral for specialist opinion e.g. psychiatric assessment where appropriate, and liaising with other professionals involved in the overall therapeutic care and wellbeing of the prisoners
• Screening prisoners for relevant diseases
• Liaising with the National Infection Control Manager to reduce the transmission of communicable diseases
• Facilitating fitness to work assessments
• Ensuring the provision of appropriate public health and vaccination programmes to prisoners in line with current IPS health policy
• Medication management initiatives
• Participating in clinical audit and ensuring compliance with relevant protocols/standard operating procedures pertaining to the health care of prisoners
• To ensure that this work is undertaken, agreed targets with the ECL will form part of a regular review mechanism

Requirements:

• Must be actively working as a GP in Ireland or recent Irish GP experience
• IMC Specialist Registration desirable but not required
• Previous experience working in UK/Irish prison service desirable however, will consider GPs with previous experience working in addiction and/or An Garda Síochána services.
• Compliance: must meet HSE compliance standards including both Agency Garda Vetting and IPS Garda Vetting clearance.
