An exciting opportunity exists for a General Paediatrician wishing to make a real and enduring difference to the paediatric landscape of North Western Queensland.
Remote Australia with its ruggedness and beauty also includes a diverse range of clinical pathology which is both engaging and challenging to clinicians of all disciplines. For an enthusiastic paediatrician, based in Mount Isa, the position offers a unique opportunity to influence the further development and expansion of paediatric services within the region, while also managing diverse and sometimes quite complex paediatric conditions rarely seen in metropolitan centers.
This leadership position offers a rich clinical environment embracing general paediatric medicine, community paediatrics as well as level 4 neonatology. The Mount Isa region has a population of 32,000 with 23% under 14 years of age and 15% identifying as indigenous Australians, with a substantial focus in health care delivery for this latter group. Furthermore, services are provided for patients from outside the region, especially the NT (Lake Nash and the Alpurrurulam Community), but also south of Mount Isa. Some of the paediatric health care provision is provided to the wider region via telehealth and outreach clinics to towns and indigenous communities. The hospital is affiliated with James Cook University (Townsville) Medical School as a teaching hospital and is also accredited with the RACP for Advanced Registrar Training in General and Rural Paediatrics with Perinatal component, and for Core Clinical Training and AST training in Paediatrics with ACRRM and the Queensland Rural Generalist Pathway.
Accordingly, teaching, training and research opportunities exist within the scope of this position.
An attractive remuneration package exists to appropriately compensate for the workload and the location. Both the organisation and its Executive are highly supportive of the paediatric team which has a high profile within the community of North Western Queensland. Any paediatrician that may be less challenged within an urban environment is likely to find substantial satisfaction and meaningful community engagement when working in Mount Isa.
Generous remuneration package available (L18-L27, dependant upon qualifications, skills and experience) with an attraction and retention allowance of 50% of base annual salary, a rural and regional allowance of 15% of base annual salary, an inaccessibility allowance of $35,714 per Annam, motor vehicle allowance between $21,000 to $25,500 p.a., professional development allowance of $21,000 p.a. (with 3.6 weeks PD leave p.a.) and a clinical managers allowance up to $10,780 per Annam.
5 weeks p.a. recreational leave with 17.5% loading
