We are currently seeking an ED Registrar for a full-time 6-month rotation in North West QLD, commencing 3 August 2020 to 31 January 2021. The Emergency Department you will be working in is staffed by a Director, 9 x Senior Medical Officers and 14 Resident Medical Officers. It sees approximately 26,000 presentations per year with roughly one third of these being indigenous people with chronic disease, such as diabetes and other health issues. You will also see a significant number of patients with trauma of all kind present to the Emergency Department. The next major referral hospital is 900 km by road.
This hospital is the major referral centre for a number of country and community hospitals, remote health facilities and clinics in the North West region of Queensland. It is a Level 4 Specialist Services Base Hospital that has a Royal Flying Doctor Service base for rural retrievals, transfers and other primary health care activities. With a total of 80 beds, this hospital and health service are known for their supportive culture as they provide health services to an area of approximately 300,000 square kilometres. Due to the large area it services, the hospital/health service has a range of services, including ICU, Mental Health, Paediatrics, O&G, Palliative Care along with many visiting services. The Emergency Department sees approximately 28,000 to 32,000 presentations per annum.
With a population of 20,000 people representing over 50 nationalities, this regional city is known for its unique cosmopolitan flavour and is affectionately referred to as the oasis of the outback. It is the largest centre in outback Australia and is home to one of the most productive mines in the world. Known for its supportive community, it has regular sporting events and the largest rodeo competition in the southern hemisphere. Situated in the Selwyn ranges, this town is perfect of lovers of the outdoors, with regular fishing competitions, stunning sunsets and spectacular 4-wheel drive tracks. There are daily flights to Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville along with rail and bus services.
