Position: Ophthalmology PHO

In this role you will be providing excellent ophthalmology care to the population of this area. The Ophthalmology department has been in place for three years and in that time has provided an increasing amount of care. Due to this the team is now expanding to include another Ophthalmology PHO. This role will include a variety of work including theatre time, outpatient clinic and on-call. This hospital has four operating theatres and is supported by a six bed ICU/HDU.
This hospital has 305 beds and is the main referral hospital in Central Queensland, serving a population of over 250,000. It is also home to the new integrated cancer care service. The Central Queensland Rural Clinical School is based here and provides training for medical students from the University of Queensland. A wide range of services are offered, including, Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care and Anaesthetics.
This hospital is located on the coast of Central Queensland, approximately 600km from Brisbane. There are regular flights to Brisbane which only take one hour. It is one of the oldest cities in Queensland and has a population of over 80,000. It is the industrial and agricultural centre of the north and is also a large tourist destination due to its proximity to the Capricorn Coast.
Along with being a major centre for health, this city is also the main centre on the Central Queensland Coast for education. It has numerous state and private schools, along with the Central Queensland University. If you are looking to get a taste for tropical Australia this is an amazing location to have as a base. This region boasts some of the most pristine beaches found anywhere in the world and is known for being one of the gateways to the Great Barrier Reef.
