Position: Orthopaedic PHO/Unaccredited Registrar
Location: Central Queensland
Contract: 2020 Training Year, February start
Salary: QLD Award

The Position:
In this role, you will be assisting the Clinical Director, Orthopaedic Specialists and SMOs to provide high quality and efficient Orthopaedic care to the population of this region. Situated primarily at the base hospital, you will also be receiving referrals from surrounding smaller hospitals. The Orthopaedic Department at this hospital is part of a 40-bed surgical ward. The team consists of a Clinical Director, 4 Staff Specialists, 1 VMO, 8 PHOs and 5 JMOs. They are in the process of applying for accredited for SET training. This team works closely with the private hospitals in the region. They have 4 operating theatres and 2 procedure rooms. Due to the excellent Consultant to PHO ratio at this hospital, you will have significantly more time in theatre making it an ideal place to strengthen your AOA application.

The Hospital:
This hospital is the main referral centre for the Central Queensland Region. It has 305 beds and has recently undergone redevelopment to include an integrated cancer care service. As one of the sites of the University of Queensland Rural Clinical Schools, this hospital is actively involved in the teaching of medical students. Their focusing on growing their own medical workforce has resulted in an active Medical Education Unit which places a large focus on Registrar training. This hospital provides a wide range of services, including, EM, General Medicine, Cardiology, Nephrology, Palliative Care, Mental Health, Rehab, Geriatrics, Paediatrics, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, ICU, Anaesthesia, O&G and Orthopaedics, among many more.

The Region:
This region had a diverse geography, with spectacular coastlines and remote highlands. The population of this city is approximately 80,000 but if forecast to grow rapidly in the future. This city is becoming a tourist hub as it offers easy access to the nearby coast and national parks.
