Position: Consultant Neurosurgeon
Location: Darwin
Contract: Permanent, full-time

The Position:
The department of surgery at this tertiary hospital are currently looking for a Neurosurgeon to join their expanding team. The ideal candidate will have broad technical neurosurgery experience, along with empathy and an understanding of the inequities in society. As this team is expanding, an interest and passion for leadership and team building will be looked upon favourably. The expected hours of this role are 47.5 a week, plus on-call which is an average of 1 in 3. There are two full days of outpatient clinics each week, up to 250 surgical cases a year, and one full day of elective surgery a week. The team currently consists of 2 Neurosurgery consultants, 1 fellow and 1 unaccredited Registrar.

The Hospital:
This hospital is the main tertiary referral centre in the state. As a major trauma centre this hospital provides care to the whole of Northern Territory and the northern part of Western Australia, which totals a population of over 250,000. This hospital is affiliated with both Flinders University and James Cook University. This hospital has 360 beds and provides a wide range of specialties.

Situated on the edge of a harbour bigger than Sydney's, Darwin is a beautiful, fascinating tropical city known for being a melting pot of people and cultures that prides itself in its unique and friendly laid-back lifestyle. While a sophisticated, modern city in its own right, it is also one steeped in history. It is the home of NT commerce and business and with its world-class natural and cultural attractions it is also a thriving hub of activity in terms of tourism, nightlife and retail. Local attractions include Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, The Katherine and Tiwi Islands as well as cheap flight to Asia.
To be eligible for this exciting opportunity, you need to have your FRACS in Neurosurgery or have been found substantially comparable by RACS.
