We are currently arranging interviews for an Emergency Medicine Consultant for Country Health Service, the largest county health system in Australia and one of the biggest in the world. The Consultant is required to promote the health wellbeing to all patients as well as provide training, supervision and education for Senior Medical Practitioners and Doctors in training.
This hospital is in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia about 595 kilometres north-east from Peth. With a population of more than 30,000, the city is a dynamic regional centre and has many chain stores, sport facilities and clubs abound to support a good work life balance. Community is a key strength of the town. Being located inland the weather is peri-desert and there is weekend access to the beach community of Esperance.
This public hospital is a 131- bed inpatient facility and the largest regional public hospital in WA. It provides primary and secondary level services in the areas of emergency, obstetrics, paediatrics, renal dialysis and oncology. The Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency care and sees approximately 18,000 - 22,000 patients per year, including paediatrics and major trauma. Adjacent to the ED, is a procedure room, which is currently used as an endoscopy and minor surgical procedure facility. The hospital supports medical students through Rural Clinical School, junior doctors rotating from Peth, WBA doctors and registrars across several specialities.
This position is designed for an Emergency Medicine Consultant who have had significant experience in rural and remote emergency medicine or retrieval services.
-Provide clinical management of Emergency Medicine patients utilising evidence-based practice.
-Lead, supervise, coordinate and manage the care of patients with life threatening conditions, including multiple traumas.
-Participate fully in the Emergency Medicine Consultant roster including on call as rostered.
-Provide clinical services as determined appropriate for a 24-hour emergency service, including telephone or video-conference consultations and advice to WA Country Health staff in MPS sites.
-Ensure the ongoing application of continuous quality improvement principles in systematically evaluating and meeting customer needs.
-Ensure compliance with relevant standards, legislation and regulatory requirements.
-Responsible for a portfolio as directed by the Director of Medical Services.
-Act as a role model and mentor to medical students and medical colleagues during their placement.
-Supervise junior medical staff, including the assessment of staff performance in relation to clinical competence, adherence to departmental protocols, timely and accurate documentation, communication with patients, relatives, peers, other staff and doctors in other hospitals and in the community.
-Participate in professional educational activities, regular performance review and provides evidence of maintaining current knowledge and skills.
To be eligible for this role, you must have:
-Specialist registration by the Medical Board of Australia.
-Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or equivalent.
