Job Title: General Physician - Part time up to 0.5.
Salary Details: Specialist/Senior Specialist - remuneration will be commensurate with experience and skills
Permanent/Temporary: Contract up to 2 years (with an option to renew)
Location: Mainly Palmerston Regional Hospital but if needed some part also at Royal Darwin Hospital, Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
This is an exciting opportunity for a part time General Physician. The practise of General Medicine at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is arguably the most interesting and rewarding anywhere in Australia. From July/August 2018 we are opening up a new site Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) which will be part of RDH but will mainly focus on subacute and low acuity medicine. This is the clinical setting where you can make a difference, particularly in indigenous health outcomes. Fractional appointments with another subspecialty commitment, teaching or research commitments are supported.
The Division of Medicine consists of 5 core General Medicine inpatient management teams supported by a compliment of sub-specialty units, surgical sub-specialties and an intensive care unit. Collegiality is an important feature of the Division and is strongly promoted. When PRH opens up a 6th General Medicine inpatient management team will be based at PRH.
RDH is a 370 bed tertiary hospital and level 3 RACP teaching hospital with an array of advanced trainees. The hospital services a population of 200,000 in a catchment area including urban communities, regional hospitals and remote Aboriginal communities. PRH will be a 100 bed teaching hospital with a 24/7 ED physician run Emergency Department. In the first stage 1 Geriatric ward, 1 Rehab ward and 1 General Medicine ward will be opened but eventually also 1 planned Surgical ward and 1 Maternity ward with delivery suits. RDH and PRH are affiliated with Flinders University with an onsite Medical School. RDH and PRH are also closely linked with the Menzies School of Health Research and the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre. RDH is co-located with the 100 bed Darwin Private Hospital. Joint or fractional appointments are encouraged and supported.
The successful candidate will join the General Medicine team (and maybe also a subspeciality team) and be expected to participate in a regular on-call General Medicine roster, ward rounds, student and junior doctor education, and Specialist Outreach clinics in remote Aboriginal communities and regional hospitals.
Applicants must be eligible for registration with AHPRA (Medical Board of Australia) together with a General Medicine Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent specialist overseas qualifications. Generous relocation assistance is available.
