The hospital is a 350-bed tertiary hospital with close links to the University of Otago, one of New Zealand's leading research Institutes. The Internal Medicine Physicians contribute to the professional development and supervision of the supporting team of Registrars, House Officers and students at the hospital. Teaching sessions are a regular feature of our department and include formal lectures, weekly journal club, medical forums, grand rounds and audit meetings. The Physicians pride themselves on providing excellent Registrar exam preparation courses and enjoy a nearly 100% success rate.
The successful candidate will have a broad Internal Medicine background and will participate in a 1 in 8 on-call roster. You will be joining a dedicated team of nine senior staff who primarily provide acute inpatient care for patients. Outpatient Clinics held in our satellite hospitals in the Otago region may also be part of the successful applicant's duties
Fellowship with the RACP or an overseas equivalent is essential as is eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Applications from physicians within New Zealand and overseas is welcome. Applicants will also be considered whose preference is part-time work or who would like a joint academic appointment with the university.
Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that from 1 November 2017 it will be the requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
