National Ambulance Service - Global Medics

Global Medics are partnered with the National Ambulance Service in Tallaght and Ballyshannon providing experienced locums on a weekly basis to assist their clinical hub services in triaging 999 calls.

We are now re-opening applications for doctors who would be interested in joining the team on a locum basis through Global Medics.

The position would entail working in the Tallaght and/or Ballyshannon clinical hub office, assisting dispatchers with emergency calls in the ambulance service. You will be required to do internal training on their systems and processes, including use of MTS (Manchester Triaging System) and approximately 1-2 shifts of mandatory training shadowing a member of staff before you are able to book solo shifts. All shifts, including your introductory training will be paid at the HSE Framework locum hourly registrar rate.

Calls are triaged by the emergency dispatchers and shortlisted for our doctors and the EMT staff to contact in order to determine the severity of a case, the need to downgrade or upgrade calls and/or obtain further information from the caller (which may be the patient, family member, a nursing home, psych hospital or acute hospital). You will be expected to make autonomous decisions on the patient pathway for each of these 999 calls.

NAS are looking for locums that are passionate about making a difference to our Emergency Services and motivated to hitting call targets whilst in turn, reducing ambulance waiting times. These locums would be ideal for someone who is looking for work outside of the acute sector and is only looking for 'top-up' hours on a weekly basis.

The hourly HSE Registrar locum rate is: €54 Mon-Sat 9am-5pm, €65 Mon-Sat 5pm-9am, €71 Sun/BH.
